Devastated landlord finds garbage, unbearable stench and piles of poop in rental flat

A landlord was devastated after his tenants moved out, leaving a huge amount of clutter and destruction behind them.

Lee Locking revealed that the house had been lived in for the past five years, but after receiving her keys, she went to check on the property.

To his chagrin, he arrived to find that all the rooms were littered with garbage and dirt.

Among the mass of debris were bags of cans and bottles, old clothes, mountains of rotten food, and even cat feces in the bathroom.

Lee said the tenant had not asked for his deposit back as a result of the mess, but the landlord was surprised to see the extent of the damage.

He says he’s disappointed in the leasing agents who managed the property and says they shouldn’t have allowed the apartment to end up in this state.

“I have no idea where the person slept”

Now the 56-year-old faces the daunting task of making the Swansea property habitable again.

He says this will include a new bathroom, new kitchen and new carpeting, as well as getting rid of what he says is three or four tons of trash.

Lee said that every time he sets foot in Waunarlwydd’s house, he feels dirty.

“Each room is a state. I can’t even walk in without wanting to take a shower right after,” she said.

“When I first went to the property, I had taken the dog with me. I opened the door and the smell hit me. I took a look at the mess on the stairs, closed the door and put the dog back in the car, because of no way would he let the dog in.

“I have no idea where the person slept. A neighbor said he saw the tenant remove a mattress from the house and assumed it was being taken to the landfill. After looking at the state of the property, I’m not so sure.”

Every room in the property is filled to the brim with some kind of filth. The kitchen is littered with jars and boxes of rotten food, a stacked litter tray, and empty milk cartons.

In one of the other rooms, you can’t even see the floor because it’s covered in garbage bags, takeout containers, Amazon boxes, and clothing.

The bathroom is one of the worst rooms in the house, with the bathtub full of cat droppings. The toilet seat is about to get hung up on the bowl, while the toilet is dirty and surrounded by old plastic bags, used tissues, and empty food packages.

When the tenant handed over the keys, Lee says he was told he could keep the £400 deposit to “tidy up the mess”. But Lee reckons the cost of making the place habitable again will be much higher.

He said: “It will easily cost me a few thousand, I will have to replace all the carpets, the kitchen, the bathroom. I have been told that there is at least three or four tons of rubbish to clean up.” I’m at breaking point with him.”

Since Lee has no previous rental experience, he decided to entrust the property to a rental agent, John Francis. Lee says that he feels let down by the company and claims that they shouldn’t have let the flat get so bad.

“I understand that people can have issues with their mental health, and staying on top of cleanliness can be difficult for them, and I really feel sorry for them, but John Francis allowed it to get to this stage.”

Lee continued, “I feel really upset and angry that I let them run my property for the last five years and this is the state they gave it back to me. They were supposed to screen tenants and be the main point of contact.” for any problem.

The apartment was meant to be pet-free, but clearly there has been a cat on the property. They have taken 12% plus VAT from me for five years and now they have left me in limbo.”

A spokesperson for John Francis said: “John Francis Lettings takes any customer complaint very seriously. We have received an official complaint from the owner and are currently looking into it. We will be contacting the owner directly to resolve the issues.”
