A virtual therapist uses this routine to run her six-figure business

Kelly O’Sullivan McKenna started her own private therapy practice in February 2021 after working in the non-profit mental health industry for nearly six years. The pandemic gave her the opportunity to work with clients virtually one-on-one, an experience that sparked her interest in opening her own business.

Last year, his mental health company, Sit With Kelly, posted $250,000 in revenue, which included client work, business coaching, consulting and social media deals, documents verified by Insider showed. On any given day, her time can be divided between therapy sessions with clients, training calls for aspiring therapists, and creating digital content, like Instagram videos explaining social anxiety and posts with tips for managing burnout. Despite so many locations under her brand, McKenna intentionally sets his daily schedule to better suit the needs of her business, working just 30 hours a week.

“I’ve experimented with a lot of different ways of doing it over the last two years,” he said, adding that he ended up dividing his tasks based on the day of the week. She sees clients on Mondays, Tuesdays, and Thursdays, reserving Wednesdays and Fridays for administrative duties, training, and shooting social media content.

While McKenna makes a living helping others deal with burnout and anxiety, she has also struggled with her mental health. This Mental Health Awareness Month, McKenna told Insider how she schedules her days to manage her own anxiety and her tips for creating a work-life balance that works for you.
