DreamWorks Animation’s latest big-screen creation topped opening night totals for new films from star actors Alexander Skarsgard and Nicolas Cage.
“The Bad Guys,” an animated play about five anthropomorphic criminals from across the hill, raked in $8 million in ticket sales on April 22, its first day in theaters.
Meanwhile, Skarsgard’s Viking revenge story “The Northman” hit number two at the box office, earning $5 million.

Last week’s box office winner, “Fantastic Beasts: Dumbledore’s Secrets,” fell to number three. The latest Harry Potter movie earned $4.1 million, less than the more than 20 million tickets sold on April 15.
“Sonic the Hedgehog 2” took in $4 million on Friday, while Cage’s “The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent,” in which he plays a fictional version of himself, rounded out the top five at the box office with $2.9 million.
