Four finance heavyweights have launched a firm combining expertise in equities, debt, property and financial services.
Debretts Private Finance will provide a variety of services for business owners looking to sell their entity, or those looking to acquire or invest, enabling them to conduct efficient transactions.
Debretts Private Finance is led by Darryl Eales, Russell Martin, David Totney and James England, all with a wealth of experience facilitating the largest transactions associated with the sale of a business, management buyout or acquisition.
Debretts Private Finance is based in the heart of Birmingham’s financial district on Cornwall Street and is part of the ARMCo network of specialists providing access to finance, tax advice and specialist risk and insurance services.
Eales said: “The pandemic has provided a catalyst for people to reconsider their life plan, and business owners who may have been thinking about or planning exit strategies are considering moving plans forward as they seek a different way of life or early retirement. . . At the same time, there are many who are looking to take advantage of the opportunities that the current massive economic change is driving forward at high speed. To ensure that companies looking to sell get the value they need from their entity, and management teams looking to buy can access the financing they need, specialist help is required.
“But while there are companies that offer these services, in many cases, the process can be long and expensive. As this drags on, business owners can end up diverting attention, which affects the performance of the business and its final sale price. Efficiency is paramount to prevent this, and the combined expertise offered by Debretts Private Finance means efficiency and transparency are prioritized to deliver the best outcome for all involved,” he added.
Debretts Private Finance is backed by the 250-year heritage of Debretts, a leading authority on etiquette and one of the UK’s best-known providers of private finance.
As the founders of Debretts Private Finance, Eales brings experience gained as CEO and later as Advisory Chairman of LDC, the private equity arm of Lloyds Banking Group. England brings corporate finance experience gained working with firms such as Alantra.
Totney has held senior positions in organizations such as Lloyds Commercial Finance, where he was a director of the executive board, and is an expert in debt and the provision of business finance solutions.
Martin has extensive experience in real estate and financial services and has worked in a variety of roles within Lloyds TSB bank.
The firm offers all the services associated with the sale and execution of the purchase of a company, including business reports, planning and analysis, and evaluation and valuation of companies.
As part of the ARMCo group, Debretts clients can access the ancillary services they may need on the road, including specialist loans, corporate support and insurance services, tax advice and specialist hazard insurance.
The firm advised the management team of the real estate lending business Signature Property Finance (SPF), which was seeking to raise funds for a management buyout.
Debretts Private Finance facilitated the deal, securing exclusivity with existing investor Cabot Capital, with a trading valuation of £21m, and helped the management team select its new sponsor, Foresight Group, for this initial amount plus future work to accelerate growth.
“Debretts was great to work with on this deal. Balanced, pragmatic and a good negotiator,” said James Livingston, Foresight Group.
